It's been as hard as expected to be at work in Herndon with Rocky still missing - so I wanted to acknowledge those who spent some time today on the streets helping him: David, Ann, Jo, and probably others I am unsure of. Also thanks to those who were able to take time out of their busy days to make calls, forward this website on, or do other things to help Rocky get home.
My morning in itself involved a shaky moment - when I noticed a dead animal on the middle of 66 on my way to work. I sat on the side of the road staring at it trying to decide if it could possibly be my Rocky and to see if I could spot his collar amidst the entire mess. Finally I called work and said I would be late, and then called all the appropriate numbers (the smushed animal was in the middle of 66, so the only thing I could decipher was certain colors and size and that it was dog like) explaining that I was missing a dog and that I was staring at something that could be him, and I needed someone to come tell me for sure and I wasn't leaving until they did. Virginia State Patrol came by finally and sent someone into the roadway to tell me that I what I thought might have been Rocky was actually a fox (and therefore wouldn't be wearing a collar). The entire 45 minutes I was waiting I was thinking the entire time that this just was not the way my baby was meant to exit this world. He's way too smart, way too good, way too loved, and means way too much. So please, keep doing all you can to help him find his way back home. Thanks once again.

A friend forwarded your search for Rocky via email. I have pasted the info on my Facebook page. I am praying for you and for Rocky's safe return.

Have you thought about trying another pet detective? Maybe that will help. I am also praying for Rocky's safe return.
ReplyDeleteWhen Jeddah was missing I think it was Find Toto that was about to robocall the surrounding area with her story and description. I actually got two calls at home. You might try something similar...
ReplyDeleteWhat an awful experience. Thank goodness it wasn't Rocky. I drove around the West Fall Church metro area to see if I could spot anything this afternoon. I phoned yesterday about following hot leads during the day, so please give me a call if anything emerges.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you and Rocky.
Debra
I'm so sorry you went through that this morning. We are thinking of you and continuing to spread the word.
ReplyDeletein his blog Ravi has noted that he has used FindToto the phone service twice now.
ReplyDeleteI know he has used a highly qualified pet tracker
My heart goes out to you. We are continuing to stay vigilant, place posters and pray for his safe return. We check the blog multiple times per day, so if you need someone to check a location or help, please post and we'll respond.
ReplyDeletePlease, everyone, pray that Rocky will have the *courage* to come out of hiding and *be seen* so that he can be found by his human. And that he'll find food to sustain him.
ReplyDeleteI searched the wooded are behind Mount Daniel school for about an hour this evening with no sighting. Tomorrow morning I will tackle the High Point pool area, walk the neighborhood perimeter and check behind the unoccupied houses. If there is a certain type of deli meat that he likes, please post recommendations. Otherwise, I will continue carrying turkey and chicken.
ReplyDeleteI forwarded the info about Rocky to people that I know in the Falls Church/Arlington areas. I hope that you're able to find Rocky soon - I'm a mom of an Australian cattle dog, so I know how special they are.
ReplyDeleteI wish i still lived in DC, I would be out there helping you. I hope he turns up soon.
ReplyDeleteI'll say an extra prayer for Rocky tonight...
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and Rocky tonight, Ravi. Let me know if YOU need anything -- a meal, a drink, some cupcakes. I have all three. Got to keep yourself healthy to be strong.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found this blog. I am one of those who spotted Rocky but was unable to help him. This was Jan. 5, near Washington Blvd. and 25th St., but I couldn’t get his attention, let alone get him to come to me. The details are probably no longer important, but I will say that at that time he looked hale and hearty, trotting along at a fast pace, all alone. So quickly, he was there, then moved on. Now I can’t leave my house without seeing 10 posters along any route (a real testament to your love for your dog), and I hope and pray for his safe return!!

Ravi,
ReplyDeleteHang in there. I will be thinking about you and Rocky tonight. He can't possibly be missing forever...
*Saw* that same fox this morning. ... I walk our dog at night with a can of dog food and the big flashlight, just in case ... drove around for about 10 minutes in the Shreve Road area on the way back from work, peering around with the high-beams. Sigh. Let's just keep hoping and looking.
ReplyDeleteAnne and I postered at the shopping ctr on Rte 7 w the Giant (they allowed bulletin board only) and gave flyers to several businesses near there and also posted in the parking lot. More posters wouldn't hurt. We gave posters to the library near the pancake house and to Dogs Paw grooming. Also added posters to Pa. and Park, a busy 4-way stop near there. We did not hit the St James Catholic School, and that should probably be added to your list:

We went to the Mount Daniel Elementary School and got permission to post on the glass front door (!) and also got a teacher to take several posters for distribution on her own. Also went to Dorchester Street on a hunch and put posters there. I heard that it's a very dog-friendly street. It could attract Rocky. Closer to Rte. 7 gave a flyer to a UPS driver, who said his was the only truck that delivered in that area.
I wouldn't be surprised if night-time finds Rocky near Route 7 hoping for food behind the pancake house or another food-place, and day-time finds him hiding out in fear. Any chance people could search along route 7 behind the (food) businesses at night?
One last thing -- is there a dog group in Falls Church similar to Arlington Dogs in Arlington? In my night forays over there I see gobs of dog walkers at all hours. And often they haven't seen the signs and don't know about Rocky. So how do we contact Falls Church dog owners as a group?
So sorry you and Rocky are going through this nightmare. I've been there, and I know how awful it is. If you want to organize a night-time search party, let us know, and I bet you'll have some volunteers.
Warm thoughts and prayers to you and Rocky...
I changed my drive home from Tyson's to Arlington so I can look for Rocky. WIshing Rocky a safe return. Lori
