Hi there - we have new poster versions on www.helpfindrocky.com of Rocky that includes his full body. Might be good to start spreading these around as another option. If there are people not working today or tomorrow, there should be a lot of foot traffic around the metros. We should have people out handing out flyers and business cards to people at the metro stations. It's been a few days since Rocky's last sighting, but I'm sure he will pop up again very soon. I'm reposting the top 10 list of things to do for Rocky for those that might have time today but are unable to get out of the house:
1. Ask local chat board/communities to post on their site
2. Yahoo Groups by Area and ask moderator to post on their site
3. Google area groups and ask them to post
4. Contact Students at local colleges (Mason and Marymount)
5. Poster at local colleges (posters available at www.helpfindrocky.com)
6. Communication to Vets outside of Falls Church (call or fax a poster)
7. Communication to local business (call or fax a poster)
8. Contact Falls Church Dog Walkers
9. Call Area Pet Stores or fax a poster
10. Reach out to Media sources to tell Rocky’s story
The communication to vets, etc. outside of the area might be vital today since we need to consider the possibility that Rocky has moved outside the area at this point. As always, whatever you decide to do, please post in the comments section so we don't duplicate efforts. I'll be out in the West Falls Church area tonight looking for Rocky - if you want to come help or join, call or text 703-593-1040. For those that have been leaving food out and staking it out - please make sure you dispose of the food once you are done. Also, please make sure you are watching the food from a healthy distance.. if you are congregating around the food, Rocky will probably never approach it. Thanks again for everyone's help - Rocky's Dad.

I've submitted the story as a news tip to: WTOP, NBC 4, ABC 7, FOX 5, and CBS 9. If anyone else wants to ask them to cover the story of Rocky and the internet campaign to bring him home, go to the websites of the local news media and either click on 'Feedback' or 'Contact' us (depending on the site) to provide a news tip!
ReplyDeletegreat idea Natalia. I went to their sites and requested they cover this story.
ReplyDeleteI am going to do the same - that way if they get lots of requests - maybe we can get some press and help spread the word. Excellent idea!!!! Let's bring Rocky home!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks to Rocky's Dad for initiating the "Donate to Help Find Rocky Fund". This allows for folks that are not local or can't in person donate time to help find Rocky. Come home Rocky!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother idea... When you are posting new fliers put "STILL MISSING" on the fliers. If you write on masking tape or labels, you can quickly add it to previously posted fliers. This will let people know who might drive by the fliers each day that Rocky is still missing and to stay alert!
ReplyDeleteI am a professional dog walker in Falls Church and operate on Roosevelt Blvd and Westmoreland, so I have been on the look-out for your poor boy. I have sent a newsletter out to all my clients with a post on Rocky. See below attachment. I have also been out looking at night and working with Debbie. If you need to reach me directly 703/945-5045

I noticed there wern't too many posters along the bike trail, and they didn't go too far along the trail either. It would be wise to poster that area.
ReplyDeletei walked from gresham place down to patrick henry on the trails and didn't see him. i put posters up yesterday all the way down to wilson blvd. i also gave business cards to every jogger and dog walker i came across. most had seen the posters, etc. so word has spread well. i also drove around westmoreland, tuckahoe and east/west metros...no sightings.
ReplyDeleteI would like to suggest that all the folks posting things like "post more on the bike trail" and "add still missing to the posters" actually print flyers and get a stapler/tape and get posting. I think Rocky's dad is probably quite busy walking and driving around looking could use some help. If you have been on the trails and seen spots that could use posters, get posting! Rocky's dad can't be everywhere. Please think about what kind of help you'd want from someone else if this were your dog out there.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to make a suggestion that Rocky's dad to create a slide show from photos of Rocky, which is really quick and easy using www.slide.com.
ReplyDeleteSo I was searching for a decent sample to show how it might look, and while I never found it, I found something else interesting on Youtube. You gotta see it, but have the tissues handy . . . I hope this happens with Rocky and his dad some day soon:

Charlie,
ReplyDeleteDon't be ugly. Sounds like people are only making suggestions on what needs to be done. You wouldn't want your mean comments to run people off. Alot of people are helping and Rocky's dad doesn't want to lose them I'm sure.
It does not sound like he's trying to be ugly or mean...just practical! If people are already walking the trails, it's not much more effort to put up posters while they are there.
ReplyDeleteI see both sides. I would hate for this to be interpreted as being mean, but Charlie does have a point. To me the important message is that for anyone that doesn't realize it, Rocky's dad is more than overwhelmed by this, and can't possibly take all suggestions no matter how good they are. Even if he never had to do anything else besides search for Rocky, he couldn't do it all because it's not a one person job.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there are plenty of suggestions that are, in the end, good brainstorming suggestions but maybe aren't ones that should be acted on; maybe they are best as suggestions that leasd to new ideas.
And then there are ideas that maybe just maybe Rocky's dad would have a reason not to want to do, for his own reasons. So sometimes I might make a suggestion that you might think I should just do myself rather than expecting someone else to do, but maybe I feel that Rocky's dad should decide whether or not the suggestion should be taken.
So, sure, in some cases maybe the suggestion could "just do it" rather than just suggest it, but in other cases, just throwing out the suggestion and not taking the suggested action is OK.
Just getting back to the blog again after watching inauguration coverage. I was a bit surprised at the reaction. My apologies if this was taken as mean or ugly. It was certainly not intended to read that way. Thanks to the last poster for better-articulating my point. I think there are suggestions that are easier to "Just Do", like posting flyers, walking the trails, leaving cards at businesses, etc. There are other suggestions that are best left to Rocky's dad (where to leave feeding stations, how to best approach the dog, etc.). I simply meant to encourage people to act on the "Just Do" suggestions and allow Rocky's dad to get the most useful support possible. I just read the blog that he's working today. I'm trying to get my local Kinkos to print me a few hundred color flyers and business cards and hope to be out later today.
