Hi all - thanks to all who came out for the Silent Search tonight. We had 12 people that I know of show - and I believe a few others were out on their own searching. We also set up two feeding stations for Rocky - thank you Sonia and Linda for use of your yards and Debbie for use of your camera. I ended up getting home shortly after 10:15 - only to get a call 15 minutes later about a possible Rocky sighting near Grove and Mt. Daniel (pretty close to where he was last Wednesday). The person who saw the dog was unsure whether it was Rocky since the dog took off as soon as he got near - but it definitely seems like a decent possibility based on his description of what he saw and the fact that the dog ran off as fast as possible.
As a reminder I urge anyone reading this blog to not try and approach Rocky if they see him. Your best bet is to be as non-threatening as possible to keep him in the area until I can get there. Once he runs off he could be all the way across town in 10 minutes. So I suggest either turning and walking away and calling me. Or trying what was suggested before and lying down or sitting down and crying.
Whether or not that was my baby, I do feel that Rocky was in the area and hopefully we will find out for sure with these feeding stations (the one with the camera was actually only 2 blocks or so from where the possible sighting happened). It's been one long night after another for me at this point, but I do feel we are getting close to bringing him home. I think the silent search is still our best bet so if people want to search the area again tomorrow, we can try something similar.
For those people who will be in the area during the day... I have business cards that I can leave for you nearby my condo. Just text me and I'll let you know where. Thanks again to all those who braved the cold tonight for my baby dog. I just wish he realized how many friends and friendly souls are out there trying to help him complete his journey.

I wasn't able to make it out last night..but was able to find a lot of my patients and friends that live/work in the area and have given them all the information..I know a few were able to go and look around yesterday afternoon. rocky just wanted a doggie Vacation and will be returning home soon!! In our prayers!!
ReplyDeleteThis breaks my heart. A viewer sent me the story and I posted it on my blog at Channel 9 in DC. I really hope you find Rocky. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't fall asleep last night thinking about your dog. Submitted your URL as a news story to WTOP.
ReplyDeleteI don't live near the area but have been following the story and praying for Rocky's safe return. I can't help but wonder though--this may sound cruel but wouldn't it be better to let him get good and hungry? If he has a feeding station and his belly is full there is less incentive for him to come to a person. Just trying to think like a dog. Perhaps the animal shelter might lend you a humane raccoon trap, you could bait that with food. Should be big enough to hold him. That would eliminate the skittishness problem.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason in setting up a feeding station is so Rocky will stay in the area. Dogs will continue to move if they can't find food. Show your face today Rocky. It's time to go home.
ReplyDeleteI did not go to Mt Daniel last night (previously scheduled engagement) but searched near Benjamin Banneker Park. I will be there tonight at Tuckahoe elementary. Would it be best to bring my dog as an attraction for Rocky or leave her at home?
