For a variety of reasons, I expected myself to be happier this week. For one reason and one reason only - my feelings and emotions have been tempered. Every moment seems a little surreal and any sort of extreme happiness is just not an option. Putting my keys in my front door, I still wait to hear the jingling of a collar and the sniff of a snout. Walking past my bedroom, I still peek in to see whether Rocky has pulled my sheets of my bed, my clothes out of my hamper, or some other Munn like mischeif. I still fill and clean his water bowl every couple days out of habit. I can't believe that I haven't seen my best friend in 18 days... It's been way to long since we have hung (sn)out.
With the weather turning better in the next couple days, I hope Rocky will become visible and he can finally come home to where he belongs. At this point, the next organized search will be on Friday evening - we can meet between 6-7 pm at a location TBD (only because I want to see if we get a sighting over the next couple days). Please feel free to search on your own using the sightings map as a guide. Later today, I will have the map updated with shaded areas that still could use some postering. Also later today, I will be initiating a third "findtoto" (http://www.findtoto.com/) calling that will originate from the area where he was potentially seen on Sunday night.
We still could use volunteers during the day to poster the soon to be shaded areas on the map and also to hand out business cards and flyers to foot traffic at the metros. Also, please continue to distribute the business cards to local businesses, dog walkers, and other places where they may be put to use. If getting out of your house or work is not an option - please check the top 10 list of ways you can help spread the word from heated comfort that has been posted a couple times. And last, if you can't give your hands or time, you can donate to the Help Find Rocky fund by using the button on your right. Every little bit that I get allows me to make quicker and better decisions on what to do next in the search.
I remain hopeful and confident that my baby is still out there somewhere looking for home. I know he needs whatever help he can get to complete his journey. Please help him in any way you can.

For this evening (Weds, Jan 21st) there will be at least one volunteer out after 7pm to cover more areas with posters, and I'm seeking a partner for her - for both efficiency and safety reasons. If anyone is able to meet up with Sonia to help poster, please contact me to coordinate.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

Hillwood neighbor here - I have a private webcam set up facing outdoors - near route 50. I can't watch 100% of the time but I will do my best to keep my eye on it.
ReplyDeleteIn moments like these, I think of the 90's philosophers Chumbawamba: "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down." 8-)
ReplyDeleteWE WILL FIND ROCKY! It's going to be warmer tomorrow and Friday so he may just show himself more.
If anyone else is available tomorrow or Friday during the day to partner up and look for Rocky, reply here.
I know exactly how you feel. Our dog went missing and every free minute was posting, searching, following leads from calls. He came home after 24 days, so keep searching! Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sandy and Hank, the ACD.
ReplyDeleteStay positive and don't give up hope. Rocky will show up when you least expect it. I would start posting in different areas.
ReplyDeleteI've started driving around with a Rocky flyer on my dash so that people will see it wherever I go -- even if it's a spot that hasn't been posted to yet.
ReplyDeleteI just walked around Bishop O'Connell this evening (930PM-1020PM), no sighting of Rocky. I brought my flashlight and my German Shepherd Deacon with me, hoping that he might be able to sniff a bit and locate Rocky. No luck tonight, but I will look again tomorrow, and i plan on walking up and down on Williamsburg and perhaps some of the side streets. keep the faith, we will find Rocky.

With the FindToto calls that went out, I hope that the needed sighting call will come in. If it comes to another round of those calls, a couple of postcard versions of the FindToto idea to consider are:

I patrolled the area of Shreve/Fairlawn/Buckalew/West/Timber this morning. Tons of postering is up, and I saw a crowd of schoolkids studying one of the posters. I was out at dawn to hopefully see a wandering Rocky, but not yet. Keep the faith. He will come home!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is supposed to be in the low 50's, so hopefully he will come out for some warm sunshine!
ReplyDeleteWe have been in the Area several times in Search for Rocky...There are a lot of people that are looking for him in the Neighborhood..We were eating at Jacks Deli in Tysons and group of people were talking about Rocky..I went up to them gave them the blog..they said they don't leave the house with out looking for Rocky!! I am sure he will be home soon!!!
ReplyDeleteBarney -- you mentioned Shreve/Fairlawn/Buckalew/West/Timber. Is there any postering as far out as the golf course? I have a hunch he could be that far out. Are there dog-parks out that way? It's the dog folks that will care the most and really watch for him.
ReplyDeleteI think posting flyers in other areas is a very good idea. Dogs looking for food travel fast and far. Could be the reason why no calls are coming in. Never give up hope though.
ReplyDeleteWe've got an eye out in Upton Hills Park -- we walk our dog there.
ReplyDeleteLost Dog was at PetSmart on Rt. 50 and I told them all about Rocky. I'm going to follow up with them to see if we can get something on their site. Alexa
ReplyDeleteHas postering happened as far out as the Jefferson District Park and Golf Course ? Please post a comment if you know the answer. I really feel Rocky has moved in that direction. Are there dog parks out that way? If so I will go poster them and hand out cards. I do think people who have dogs would be much more watchful for Rocky than the average person, so reaching dog communities is really important.
ReplyDeleteI was out yesterday afternoon(22nd) searching for a few hours. I saw posters everywhere!! I covered along West Street-Arthur-Woodley areas and neighborhood behind the cemetary as well as the entire cemetary grounds. Lots of water-trees and geese there. I handed out business cards to the caretakers at the cemetary and surrounding areas where I saw people walking dogs--all had said they had seen posters or heard about Rocky and promised to keep a look out...good news...the more eyes the better we see!
ReplyDeleteShana and I went to Jefferson District Park today...
